Had the CCI loads been more consistent the averages and medians might have grouped closer together but that was simply not the case in this dataset. On one set of loads the CCI ranged from 1040 to 1090 where the Remington ranged from 1100 to 1125. The Remington primer loads were more consistent than the CCI loads which will result in an increased spread when you are evaluating the data for mean and median. Please keep in mind that this is based on average and median. I find the malfunction scenario unlikely. Either the chronograph malfunctioned consistently in favor of the Remington loads for 60 straight rounds or the Remington loads were on average faster and more consistent all else equal. Magnum pistol primers often will give more uniform velocities in magnum. I have them loaded in 10 shot test strings with 6 different primers Federal 100, CCI 500, Winchester WSP, Federal 200 SP magnum, CCI 550 SP Magnum and Winchester WSPM magnums. On ignition, magnum primers give longer burning, hotter flames. The difference in velocity, however, is a different matter.
