The Lopez Village Stormwater Improvement Project will upgrade the eroding ditch along the east side of Village Road and improve storm water quality and manage flooding. The Department of Environmental Stewardship and Project Manager Krista Davis would like to thank the Lopez community for their patience and support throughout the planning, design, and construction of the new stormwater channel. The road is currently open to the public. Tree and shrub planting will commence in early spring. In the meantime, a temporary divider will be installed to maintain the integrity of the trail over the wintertime. The new parking area will be chip sealed next year so the gravel walking trail will be more defined. Crews plan to clean up and prepare to leave the project site.

More information regarding regulation of riprap by the GA EPD can be accessed by following this link. Riprapis a facing layer or protective mound of stones placed to prevent erosion or sloughing of a structure or embankment due to the flow of surface and storm water runoff. Runoff from each storm is retained, allowing suspended sediment particles and associated pollutants to settle out. Retention Pond is a stormwater control structure with a permanent pool of water in which stormwater runoff is directed. Swaleis a broad, shallow, gently sloped channel for conveying stormwater runoff. Stormwater structuretypically accounts for structures that make up components of stormwater facilities, such as catch basins, headwalls, culverts, and inlets. Stormwater management facilitymeans any infrastructure that effects stormwater management and which controls or conveys stormwater runoff. Sedimentationmeans the process by which eroded material is transported and deposited by the action of water, wind, ice or gravity. Sedimentmeans solid material, both organic and inorganic, that is in suspension, is being transported or has been moved from its site of origin by air, water, ice or gravity as a product of erosion. Johns Creek has its own storm system that discharges into streams, lakes, and rivers. Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) is a storm system that flows through its own set of pipes rather than being combined with the sewer system. Impervious surfaces include, but are not limited to, rooftops, buildings, streets and roads, and any concrete or asphalt surface. Learn more about the Clean Water Act on the Environmental Protection Agency's website.ĭetention means the temporary storage of stormwater runoff in a stormwater detention facility for the purpose of controlling the peak discharge.ĭetention facilitymeans a facility that collects water from developed areas and releases it at a slower rate than it enters the collection system.
